The Mentor

Joshua Newton, the Founder-Mentor of The Course, is a full-time contemplative of the advaita of love.

He learns and teaches ACIM and other scriptures that lead our mind to freedom. He writes books, holds retreats, and mentors keen seekers who are guided to him. He lives in Kerala, a southern state of India, where he runs The Course Commune to teach students of wisdom. He warmly welcomes emails and letters from all over the world and promptly replies to every message he gets.

The Commune

The Course is run by 'The Course Commune', an open platform that shares the non-religious, non-sectarian, non-dualist wisdom of Love. The Commune runs free and paid classes, retreats, workshops in India.

The Mentor

Joshua Newton is an author and a Course Contemplative living in Kerala, India. For 25 years, he worked as a journalist and later wrote books and a couple of movies. He left behind the career to serve The Great Spirit with his talents.

The Method

'A Course in Miracles' helps us to discover the real cause of our misery. But not everyone can access its high metaphysics from their levels of understanding. So The Course uses effective emotion clearing methods to help this process.

The Foundation

The Course is a path of wisdom about our true Self. It is founded on the Advaita of Love, 'A Course in Miracles'. While ACIM remains steadfastly its foundation, we also relish ancient advaita texts and teachings equally.

My Story

Know how a potter does it?

He bakes the pot enough. Then he picks it to thump on it. Checks if it ‘sings’. If it’s a ‘thud’, he puts the pot back in the oven. For forty-three years, I was a ‘thud’. Half that time, I was a reporter and an editor. I authored books, wrote movies, and won awards. I almost made it big in the world. Well, my ‘thud’ years..

Then I found ‘A Course in Miracles’.

The book came to me still five years earlier. For less than a dollar. At a Sunday book market in New Delhi in 2007. It read like ‘Mormon stuff’. So I hid it behind my Naipauls and Foucaults and Adornos. Five more years of suffering and I was ready. As the book says: “To learn this course requires willingness to question every value that you hold.”

I dropped all the meanings I had given my dad, mom, partner, kids, job, money, social status, and even to God. Because every damn thing I thought I knew began looking different. Course blew me away from the inside.

This is the first scripture that told me: You cannot ‘interact’ with God as a separate being. Because you are literally inside God’s Love and can never step out. The book also taught me that God did not create this world or our bodies and that he has absolutely no interest in our earthly affairs. Because God has no illusions.

I believe a hierarchy of souls right from John of the Cross to Teresa of Avila to Nietzsche to Goethe to Schopenhauer to Kierkegaard to Swedenborg would have been thrilled to have found this book. After receiving ‘A Course in Miracles’, I learned the real meaning of the teaching: The truth shall set you free. It did.

This book won’t tickle your balls. It’ll for sure kick your ass.
